Antarctic Beech Forest walk - Gloucester Tops in Barrington Tops National Park

The World Heritage listed Gloucester Tops area is around 1300 metres above sea level & part of the Barrington Tops National Park. The Antarctic Beech Forest would have to be one of the best walks in the region.

The walk starts in sub-alpine woodland dominated by Mountain Gums before entering the magnificent Antarctic Beech Forest. It feels like another world as the trail wanders through an understorey of Antarctic Tree Ferns & the towering Beech trees overhead. The trees as well as those fallen are covered in mosses, lichens & fungi, slowly breaking the giants down, back to where they came.

A small creek is crossed with crystal clear water flowing in it. The trail then breaks into a more open forest with Antarctic Tree Ferns & King Ferns before dropping down a gully to a cascade. There is a steep ascent out of the gully.
