Over the years we have created a little rainforest at home in our own backyard. This microclimate supports a variety of ferns, tree ferns & palms. We have also found different seeds on our walks & have germinated these into plants which are now planted in the garden & into pots. Leaves from a large African Olive tree provide mulch for the garden & also provide the plants with needed shade. The surrounding overhead area is covered with fifty percent shade cloth which keeps the direct sun off the ferns & creates a humid environment by keeping the wind out & the moisture in. The fernery can be at least fifteen degrees cooler on a hot summers day.
